This formulation provides 150mg of ellagic acid, a compound derived from pomegranate as well as from raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. Early evidence suggests that ellagic acid acts as a scavenger - binding with potentially harmful chemicals in the body and rendering them inactive. Studies in Europe and Israel have indicated that the powerful antioxidant properties of ellagic acid may be of benefit in supporting cardiovascular health.
It's believed that ellagic acid works by quenching free radicals through the induction of the cellular antioxidant glutathione, and the activation of detoxifying enzymes. Ellagic acid also binds to DNA at threatened sites, blocking carcinogen access to our genetic blue print. Alternatively, by occupying the critical sites on DNA, ellagic acid may directly interact with reactive carcinogenic metabolites by donating its electrons and transforming the hostile metabolite into one less capable of doing harm.
