Source Naturals Activated Quercetin's principle ingredients is the bioflavonoid Quercetin. Human cell culture studies with quercetin have demonstrated its capability to inhibit the release of histamine from mast cells.
Quercetin: A Unique Bioflavonoid Quercetin is a unique bioflavonoid that has been extensively studied by researchers over the past 30 years. Bioflavonoids are usually found in close association with vitamin C. Together, bioflavonoids and vitamin C provide antioxidant protection, helping plants withstand harsh variations in wind, rainfall, temperature, and sunlight. Bioflavonoids also can be important to our optimal health - but they cannot be manufactured by our bodies.
Quercetin is no stranger to the human diet: for example, onions may contain up to 6% quercetin (dry weight). As a food supplement, quercetin is hypoallergenic, containing no citrus, wheat, corn, or other common allergens. Quercetin has a strong affinity for mast cells, the body's main storage unit for histamines. Like many other bioflavonoids, it has the ability to stabilize cell membranes, preventing histamines from spilling out of mast cells into the bloodstream and surrounding tissues.
Quercetin is a bioflavonoid found in red apples, red onions, brussel sprouts, kale, peas, bell peppers, pears and asparagus. It is also found in bee pollen and propolis, two plant materials found in the beehive. It is possible to consume a fair amount of quercetin through your diet. If you have allergies, however, diet is often not enough and you may need a supplement to get enough quercetin to control your symptoms. It appears quercetin decreases allergic symptoms by stopping the release of histamine. If you start taking quercetin and other nutritional supplements I will mention below before an allergy attack, they are likely to be more effective.
