Passion Seed Oil often called Maracuja oil has long been known and used by the Aztec civilization and in the Amazon rainforest. This oil comes from the seeds of the Passion Flower. The exotic Passion Flower has many health benefits and is most commonly known for its calming properties.
Passion seed oil is a great emollient oil, light, non-greasy and easy to apply. It is an excellent moisturizer for the skin and helps to keep it hydrated.
It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. This is great for protecting the skin against free radical damage and keeping it youthful. Massaging Passion seed oil into painful joints can help reduce the pain. For massages, it can be mixed with another carrier oil, such as Sweet Almond oil.
Due to calming properties of the Passion Flower, the oil too is thought to have a profound stress relieving effects. Inhale the aroma of the oil, put a few drops on a tissue and place it next to your pillow or put a few drops in a bath for calm and relaxation.
The seeds for our Passion Flower Seed oil come from the South Western area of Uganda, from a mountain range called the “Mountains of the Moon”. The climatical conditions that enshroud these mountains, called Rwenzori (rain maker) in the local language, are ideal for growing passion fruit. The mountainous nature of the terrain lends itself well to small holder farming, with the growing of passion fruit being both popular and sustainable. Currently 200 families produce the passion fruit from which the passion fruit seeds are derived. The seed is then dried, cleaned and sorted by a women’s group, for whom the income is invaluable as they are the main breadwinners for their families.
